Cool Design for Temperatures

Moen, the giant North American plumbing fixtures manufacturer, needed graphic symbols to communicate hot and cold around the world. The icons we came up with were easily understood worldwide: Snowflake for cold, and a sun for hot. And for warm, we put the two together. Today these icons are used on Moen fixtures around the world.

What is it? It's a medical scanner. What's it do? It shoots nuclear particles through a patient and captures an image. Now, if ever a product had to satisfy a number of technical requirements yet not look super scary, this is it. By incorporating gentle curves this half million dollar machine appears both hi-tech and friendly. Now, that’s called keeping the big picture in mind.

Evidently, it caught the eye of the people at ID magazine. That's why they featured this camera in the Annual Design Review.
